My Neck, My Back.....

Been away from running for too long now.  It started with vacation, next there was work travel, then there was life and we ended with lazy.  Yeap all of those things have been factors as to why I have not been out there in a while.  None extremely valid as I could have run through any of these circumstances but they are all what I call the truth.  Lately one of my biggest reasons for not getting out there is the time in which the sun decides to rise and set.  Can't run in the dark so running is out of the question right now since most of my free time is during hours when the sun is set.

Well today I've decided to get back in the groove of things.  I laced up my sneakers and I hit the pavement.  While out there I thought that the pavement had hit me back because I was STRUGGLING! With a capital struggle. While I was out there up hill hurt, down hill hurt, no hill hurt, it just all around HURT! I was able to push through that first mile and finished a 13 minute 33 second  mile run which is pretty consistent with my last run but I tell you what I had to walk back.

Well the first thing that you do when you have fallen off the wagon is get back on and today I declare that I'm back on.  Even though my body aches, my weight is up and my distance and my stamina are low, my hopes are high and just like before, I'm Destined to Run! Check out today's workout details below.

Running, running.....

Went out for my first run this morning after seeing the podiatrist, I was met by a little discomfort and a tad bit of rain but I pushed through.

Today I work up hype with this song on my mind (see video below) but all while hoping to be able to complete my first mile with this pad on my foot.  Check out my song of the day and my 1 mile stats.

Tomorrow the goal is to see how far I can actually go NON STOP! Now onto breakfast....fruit smoothie (banana, berries, spinach, H20, chia and flax) Thinking about the following for the next 30 days:

1 smoothie meal
1 living meal
1 pescaterian meal
snacks consisting of fruits and nuts

We shall see.  Medium girl needs to run, eat clean and drop some weight!

The Doctor Speaks

So today I had my long awaited podiatry appointment......It has taken me 4 weeks to get this appointment with Dr. David T. Weiss of West End Foot and Ankle who has been voted Richmond Magazine's Top Docs 2012 Winner.

While waiting myself and few others decided to self diagnosis.  Here is some of what I got:

Plantar Fasciitis - Mechelle Lewis - 2008 Track and Field Olympian and my cousin!
Joint Inflammation - Sara Hyman - My dear friend with a similar experience
Stress Fracture - Yours Truly
Metatarsalgia - Yours Truly again!

Well survey says:  Metatarsaligia or as Sara put it.....joint inflammation!

After a $50 co-pay, x-ray and consultation with Dr. Weiss he thought it would be best to give me a cortisone shot, shoe pad to wear for the next 2 to 3 weeks and orders to stay off heels for a few weeks as well.

I asked the million dollar questions......Can I still run....and the answer was YES just stay off of it for a while and make sure that you have the proper shoes.  So my next question was so you said a while can I go out Saturday?  His answer was yes!  Excited!

So now I really don't have a reason to not be out there and I just got an email from Arvat of Richmond
City Runners of Color (turn vol. down) that half marathon training starts Saturday.  So while my goal is just to make it through the 8k, I'm amped that I can get out there and at least try.

Remember....Nothing beats a failure but a try. So if participating in a race peaks your interest all I can say is to just try, I know that I am!

Will you join me?

These shoes aren't made for running!

With the sun rising later each morning, it's making it dag on hard to get out of that bed at 5:40 and prepare for a run.  This girl is in need of a boost!  According to Richmondmarathon.com I have exactly 73 days to accomplish this......good bejesus!!!!!! I've got to get it in.

Okay I'm trying to stay accountable but I've gotta get on my running shoes!!!!!

TODAY! or maybe I should wait until after this podiatry appointment tomorrow.....hmmmmm

In the rain

So I picked up Tiff and we waited for Tam and we watched the rain pour pour pour but..... we did it! We got out of the car and put one foot in front of the other and we did the dag on thing. Tiff is a trooper being that it was her first day out. Tam was out there but I sware that she was laying me out in her mind for having her out in this rain. All in all running in the rain wasn't too bad EXCEPT for the hair product that ran in my eye and down my neck and impeded my ability to see at some point during my hour out. So for my curlfriends if you are going to run in the rain I would suggest you do so with your hair product free.

Destined to Run!

Today is the day that I've declared that I'm destined to run!  My first goal is to run the HCA Virginia 8k.  As of now I have 77 days to get it in.  I've been away from training for 2 weeks now and today I could only mustar up enough energy to walk 2 miles and return but tomorrow I'm going out with my River City Runners of Color gang.  I'm bringing my girl Tiff out with me and Tam has been doing the dag on thing while I've been off doing other stuff the past two weeks but I'm about to get it in.  Oh and yeah my right foot hurts....we will see what the podiatrist says on Thursday.

Let the count down begin!
